Computed Tomography (CT)

Rapid, high-resolution cross-sectional imaging for clinical and research applications at RecioMed®.

CT at RecioMed is provided by appointment only and is not an emergency or urgent care service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

About CT

CT uses a series of X-ray measurements taken from different angles to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. It is particularly useful for evaluating the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and vascular structures. CT is frequently specified in oncology, pulmonary, and cardiovascular research protocols.

What to Expect During Your CT

01

Arrival and Check-In

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. You will complete a brief screening form and any required study-specific documentation.

02

Preparation Review

A member of our clinical team will review your preparation instructions, confirm any fasting requirements, and discuss whether contrast will be used for your exam.

03

The Exam

You will lie on a table that moves through a large, open ring. The technologist will give you breathing instructions during the scan. The exam itself typically takes 10 to 30 minutes.

04

After Your Exam

You may resume normal activities immediately after a CT exam unless you received contrast, in which case you will be asked to drink extra fluids. Results are communicated to your referring provider.

How to Prepare

  • Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners. You may be asked to change into a gown.
  • Remove all jewelry and metal objects before your appointment.
  • If your exam requires contrast, you may be asked to fast for a period before your appointment. Specific fasting instructions will be provided when you schedule.
  • Inform our staff of any kidney disease, prior contrast reactions, diabetes, or medications that may affect contrast administration.
  • Inform our staff if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
  • For abdominal or pelvic CT, you may be asked to drink oral contrast solution prior to your exam. Instructions will be provided in advance.

Contrast Agents

Some CT exams use an intravenous iodinated contrast agent to improve visualization of blood vessels and certain organs. If contrast is ordered, our clinical team will review your kidney function history and allergy history before administration.

Research Protocol Imaging

For participants enrolled in a clinical study, your CT will be performed according to the sponsor-approved imaging protocol. Acquisition parameters, timing windows, and data transfer procedures are governed by the study protocol and IRB-approved procedures.
