Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Detailed soft tissue imaging without ionizing radiation, available for clinical and research purposes at RecioMed®.

MRI at RecioMed is provided by appointment only and is not an emergency or urgent care service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

About MRI

MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of organs, soft tissues, bones, and other internal structures. It does not use ionizing radiation. MRI is commonly ordered for neurological, musculoskeletal, abdominal, pelvic, and cardiovascular evaluations.

What to Expect During Your MRI

01

Arrival and Check-In

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary paperwork and complete the MRI safety screening questionnaire.

02

Safety Screening

You will be asked about implanted devices, prior surgeries, metal fragments, and other factors that may affect your eligibility for MRI. This step is required for your safety.

03

Positioning and the Exam

You will lie on a padded table that moves into the MRI bore. The technologist will communicate with you throughout the exam. You will hear intermittent knocking or buzzing sounds — this is normal. Earplugs or headphones are provided.

04

Duration

Most MRI exams take between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the body region and number of sequences required. Research protocol exams may have specific timing requirements.

How to Prepare

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing without metal fasteners, zippers, or underwire. You may be asked to change into a gown.
  • Remove all jewelry, piercings, and hair accessories before your appointment.
  • Inform our staff of any implanted devices, pacemakers, cochlear implants, surgical clips, or metal fragments prior to your visit.
  • If your exam requires contrast (gadolinium), you may be asked to fast for a period before your appointment. Specific instructions will be provided when you schedule.
  • Inform our staff if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
  • If you experience claustrophobia, please let us know when scheduling so we can discuss options with you.

Contrast Agents

Some MRI exams use an intravenous contrast agent (gadolinium) to improve visualization of certain structures. If contrast is ordered, a member of our clinical team will review your kidney function history and any allergy history before administration.

Research Protocol Imaging

For participants enrolled in a clinical study, your MRI will be performed according to the sponsor-approved imaging protocol. Sequence parameters, timing, and data handling are governed by the study protocol and IRB-approved procedures.

Schedule an MRI Appointment
